BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING SEPTEMBER 18, 2006

 

Call to order-The meeting was called to order at 7:08 pm at Hackney’s in Lake Zurich. Those in attendance were: Bob Brown, Randy Steen, Peter King, Steve Gibble, Tom Vogan, Mike Babicz, Jerry Blum, Don Swanson, Fred Swanson Jim Bernardi, Rocky Nelson, John Widmayer.

Approval of minutes for May. 15, 2006- Mike Babicz moved to accept the minutes of May 15, 2006. John Widmayer Seconded and it was passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s report-Randy Steen- There is a balance of $8057.90 in the general fund. –A Grant proposal was submitted to the state for a Camcorder, and Dry erase boards and markers. –A report was made on members and dues payments.  

 Secretary’s Report-Jerry Blum – Newsletter was sent out via e-mail. A number of members did not receive it. I will work on the problem. Make sure you have jerry.blum@comcast.net in your address book.

Membership Chairman’s Report-Mike Roseman – sent a report about officials as of 1/17/06 compared to officials as of 9/17/06. Mike had it broken done by sport and New vs. Old members. If you would like a copy of the report contact me and I will send you a copy.

Assignment Chairman’s Reports-

     Football-Bob Brown-Bob said he has enough officials to cover games this season but is always looking for new officials. The officiating classes that IAACO ran have helped. It would be better if they were earlier in the season. The classes were held at three sites.

Basketball- Mike Babicz- All games from Jerry Heidlauf have been assigned to date. The schedule for Quentin Rd. is not in yet.

Baseball-Ron Guy- No Report

Presidents’ Reports

      Football- Tom Vogan
-we had six meetings, 5 for all officials and 1 for just newer officials.
-Average attendance was between 20 -25, with about 30 for Dave Gannaway.
-Mundelein H. S. was very helpful with the facilities provided.
-A survey that was collected about the meetings being is evaluated.
- John Widmayer asked about the Football Officials manuals and why we did not receive them.

Basketball-Rocky Nelson

-Newer officials are to come ½ hour early ( 7pm) for the regular meetings at 7:30pm.
-The meeting schedule is on the website. ( 1st meeting Oct. 11, 2006 at Mundelein.)
-The speakers will all be members of NOA.
-Kurt Gibson will be here on Oct. 25, 2006.

Baseball – Ron Guy- No report

IACAO-Jim Bernardi
-Basketball Clinic will be Nov. 4, 2006 at Hoffman Estates H. S.
-IACAO has AV equipment that we can borrow for presentations.

Banquet Committee Report- Randy Steen

- 2007 Banquet will be on April 21 at Parkway by the Lake.

Norm Geske Fund-Peter King
-2006 check was returned because the recipient could not accept it.
-Fund balance is $14,239.23.

Bob Brown Fund-Randy Steen

Keith Ryan Scholarship- Mike Babicz
-Very good turn out. 13 NOA members present.
-Nomination discussion for NOA member will be at the Jan. 15, 2007 Meeting.

Lifetime Members-Don Swanson
-To be considered a member must be out of officiating for 1 year.
-Mike Briggs was nominated as a lifetime member by Mike Babicz, the motion was seconded by Tom Vogan. The vote was unanimous.

Old Business-Randy Steen
-Reported on his research into the salary reduction proposal. Discussion followed.
-Mike Babicz made a motion to table the discussion until the Jan. 15, 2007 meeting. Tom Vogan seconded and the vote was unanimous.

New Business-
-Bob Brown-NOA-AOS banquet is Oct. 4, 2006 at Hackney’s in Lake Zurich. Brian McDonald, AD at Maine East H. S. will be the speaker.
-NOA Constitution and by –laws were passed out.
-Rocky Nelson-Summer clinics
-Grant program
-Insurance program –offered to IHSA members
-Recruiting Officials-send officials to Schools to talk about becoming officials at their team meetings or other appropriate times to find new officials.
-IHSA and NOA Observers program.
-Officials pay for tournament games

Motion to adjourn by Don Swanson at 9:30pm was seconded by Mike Babicz. The vote was unanimous.
