BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MAY 21, 2007

Call to order-The meeting was called to order at 7:10pm at Hackney’s in Lake Zurich. Those in attendance were: Randy Steen, Tom Vogan, Mike Babicz, Jerry Blum, Rocky Nelson and Mike Roseman, Steve Gibble, Don Swanson,
Jim Bernardi and Fred Swanson.

Approval of minutes for January 15, 2007-    Mike Babicz moved to accept the minutes of Jan. 15, 2007, as amended. Rocky Nelson seconded the motion. The motion was passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s report-Randy Steen-All bills have been paid for the year. That balance in the account is $4242.27.
A DVD camcorder and a Basketball display board were purchased with funds from an IHSA grant.

Rocky moved to donate $100.00 for the hospitality room at the Officials Conference in July. Jim Bernardi seconded the motion and it was passed Unanimously.

Delegates to the Officials Conference will be Randy Steen and Don Swanson.

Secretary’s Report-Jerry Blum   Spring newsletter will be out by 6/10/07

Membership Chairman’s Report- Mike Roseman-
We have a total of 166 members, 126 BK, 69 FB, and 20 BA.

Assignment Chairman’s Reports-

Football- Bob Brown- I need FB scrimmage officials and Sat. 8/25/07 AM officials.
The rest of the season looks under control.

Basketball- Mike Babicz- 28 NOA officials filled 150 slots as of 3/6/07 for Jerry Heidlauf.

Baseball- Vince Cannon- Not Present

President’s Reports-

Football- Tom Vogan- Meetings fall 07 –8/8, 8/22, 8/29, 9/5, 9/12, at Mundelein H. S.
2 speakers are lined up and the rest are in the works.

 Basketball- Rocky Nelson- Meetings for fall 0/7 are -9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/24, 10/31, 11/7.
Start times are 7pm for newer officials and 7:30pm for the rest.
Elections for assignment chairman will be at the last meeting.
There will possibly be a 4hr clinic for new officials.
The Observers Program will be mainly for new and 2nd year officials, but anyone can
Participate.
Bob Brown night will be Friday Dec. 7, 2007.
NOA nights out will be 12/7/07, 1/11/08, 2/1/08.

Baseball- Dave Kirtz- Not present

IACAO- Jim Bernardi- Football clinic will be 8/11/07 and the Basketball clinic
Will be 11/3/08.

Banquet Committee Report- Randy Steen- When do we want to have the Banquet.
Send a questioner to members to get input about banquet dates. We are looking
At the 4th Wed. or the 3rd Sat. of April. The motion was made by Jerry Blum and seconded by Don Swanson. The motion passed.
A comment will be in the fall newsletter about the poor attendance at this Year’s Banquet.
Frank Cittadino will be attending the 2008 Banquet to thank us for his award.
Lifetime members will be contacted about the Banquet, but we must get their Contact addresses.

Norm Geske Scholarship- Peter King- The fund balance is $13748.88.
This year’s recipient is Alex Wodka of Buffalo Grove H. S.

Bob Brown Fund-The presentation went well and was awarded to Tony Benedetto of Crystal Lake South.
There is $1859.00 in the account after the award.
Don Swanson won the 50-50 raffle at the banquet and donated his $90.00 back to the fund.

Keith Ryan Scholarship- Mike Babicz did not know the date as of yet, but it should be decided by the June 4, 2007 Meeting. (The date is October 4th).

Lifetime Member- Dennis Doud was nominated to receive the award.

Old Business-A proposal to change the procedure of getting on the top 15 list was submitted by Randy Steen.
Election of Officers- the sport presidents will set the date to elect their boards which includes At Large, past President, assignment chairman, Board Member for that sport, and the membership chairman.
Mike Babicz moved to accept the Application for the top 15 List as presented with adjustments and periodic review. Jim Bernardi seconded and it was passed.
Salaries-$1700.00 paid to Board members plus waiver of dues for another $800.00. Rocky Nelson motioned to accept and Tom Vogan seconded. It passed.

New Business-Joint NOA-AOS Banquet will be held at Hackney’s on 10/3/07 at 7:30 pm. Bill Corrola an NFL official who has worked a Superbowl will be the featured speaker.

Baseball-What do we do with baseball? No representative was present. Repeated contacts have been made to contact with no success. Rocky Nelson made a motion to drop Baseball from the NOA as a group. This was seconded by Mike Roseman and passed by the members present. Don Swanson will contact the Baseball representative for feedback on this motion.

Motion to adjourn- Tom Vogan motioned and Steve Gibble seconded and it was passed. The meeting adjourned at 9:56 pm.

The Board meetings for next year will be Sept. 17, 2007, Jan. 28, and May 19, 2008.
