Minutes of NOA Board of Directors Meeting
Sept. 15, 2008

Call to order-The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm at Hackney’s in Lake Zurich. Those in attendance were:  Mike Babicz, Jerry Blum, Rocky Nelson, ,Bob Brown, Jim Bernardi, Darrell Schrag, Al Smigiel, Troy Whalen, Fred Swanson, Peter King, Tom Vogan, Darnell Jones, John Widmayer

Approval of minutes for May 19. 2008-   Motion to accept was made by  Mike Babicz and seconded by Mike Roseman. The vote to accept was unanimous.

Treasurer’s report-Randy Steen-Checking Account balance-$6,655.00                  Norm Geske Fund-$12,317.00,  Bob Brown fund- $4,040.00.
-$100.00 was donated to Maryville Academy in John Schaeffer’s name
-discussion on stopping donations to Norm Geske fund and putting it in the Bob Brown fund
-discussion on paying only for NOA or AOS members at the annual combined Banquet

Secretary’s Report- Jerry Blum-
-send me information for the Whistling Zebra
-sent sympathy card to Don Swanson
-sent three Zebras to members without e-mail

Membership Chairman’s report- Mike Roseman-
-53 paid Football members—7 unpaid
-87 paid Basketball members—47 unpaid
-32 dual sport
-153 0f all members paid

Assignment Chairman’s Reports-
Football- Bob Brown
-new officials coming on line
-Should get through season alright

Basketball- Mike Babicz-
-Mike has the Quentin Road schedule and will have it at the basketball mtgs.
-still has games from Jerry Heidlauf

President’s Reports-
Football- Al Smigiel-
-last meeting was on Wed . Sept. 17, 2008
-will plan time for new officials to meet at next years meetings

Basketball- Troy Whalen-
-basketball meetings to start on Oct. 8th and go for 6 weeks till Nov. 12 they will start at 7pm and go till 8:30pm
-rules interpretation meeting will be taken care of by Jim Bernardi ( Oct. 22)
-rules test will be done in four meetings ( 25 questions each meeting)
-looking into place to have NOA nights out

 

IACAO- Jim Bernardi-
-Basketball Clinic will be held at Hoffman Estates H. S. on Sat. Nov. 8, 2008 starting at 8:30am. Doors open at 7am

Banquet Committee-Randy Steen-
-the Banquet will be at Hackney’s again in 2009. May 2, 2009 is the tentative date

Norm Geske Scholarship- Peter King-balance $12,317.00
-Mark Damisch could not accept the Scholarship money because he has a full athletic scholarship at Indiana University
-NOA donates $250.00 per year
-tabled discussion on donations to this fund till Jan. board mtg.

Bob Brown Scholarship- Randy Steen-balance $4,040.00
-NOA donates $250.00 per year

Keith Ryan Scholarship- Mike Babicz-
-Banquet is Thursday Sept. 18, 2008 at Midlane C.C.
- Bob Brown will be inducted to the Lake County Sports Hall of Fame
-we need to have a nominee by the Jan. mtg. for 2009 induction

Lifetime Member-
-Ed Moricoli and Bob Brown were nominated

Old Business-
-Troy Whalen will research and bring information to the Jan. mtg. on incorporation
-the Board met with an official concerning his unprofessional behavior negatively affecting the NOA. It was recommended that the member be placed as an associate member till July 31, 2009 (motion by Darnell Jones, seconded by Mike Babicz). The member’s behavior will be reviewed and a decision will be made on his status.

New Business-
-top 15 lists are running smooth in football, a suggestion was made to use the Power Rating from the IHSA if they are published online
-Peter King and Jim Bernardi report that Basketball rules mtgs. Will be online.
-By Law revision, Rocky Nelson and committee will review the By-Laws and make suggestions for amendments
-the amendments will be sent out to the General membership for review and a vote may be taken at the Jan. Board Mtg.

Motion to Adjourn- Rocky Nelson moved to adjourn at 10:10pm and it was seconded by John Widmayer. All approved.
