Minutes of NOA Board of Directors Meeting

Sept. 19, 2011

Call to order-The meeting was called to order at  7:00 pm at HackneyŐs in Lake Zurich. Those in attendance were: Mike Babicz, Jerry Blum, Rocky Nelson, Jim Bernardi, Darrell Schrag, Al Smigiel, Mike Roseman, Randy Steen, Don Swanson, Bob Brown, Darnell Jones, Fred Swanson, Bruce Ruttenberg, Peter King, Troy Whalen. Those in red were present.

Approval of minutes for May 16, 2011 - Motion to accept was made by e-mail and approved unanimously

TreasurerŐs report-Randy Steen-Checking Account balance-$8918.90, Norm Geske Fund-$8764.00, Bob Brown fund- $5275.00. Darrell Schrag made the motion to accept and Fred Swanson seconded it. The vote was unanimous.

SecretaryŐs Report- Jerry Blum-The summer newsletter was sent out.

Membership ChairmanŐs Report- Bruce Ruttenberg-No Report

Assignment ChairmanŐs Reports-

Football-Bob Brown--No Report

Basketball- Mike Babicz-- Quentin schedule is in and Mike is working on assignments. We also have the Special Olympics basketball dates.

PresidentŐs Reports-

Football-Darrell Schrag--We had six meetings this season which finished last week. Elections were held and Darrell Schrag was elected as President and Dave Butts was elected as the At large Representative. The Top 15 list was submitted and some questions were brought up about qualifications for being included on it.

A survey will be sent out to see what the members thought about the meetings.

Basketball- Troy Whalen-Beth Sauser will be at the Oct. 19, 2011 basketball meeting.

Certificates will be presented to honor member achievements.

Elections will be held for President and at large Representative at our last meeting of the year.

IACAO-Rocky Nelson attended a board meeting.

Banquet Committee-Randy Steen, Mike Babicz, (Chairman) Jim Bernardi, Peter King, and Jim Kauss are the members.

The Banquet will be held on May 5, 2012 at LambŐs Farm

Norm Geske Scholarship- Peter King-balance- $8764.00. Discussions were held about how to better promote the awarding of the scholarship.

Bob Brown Scholarship- Randy Steen-balance- $5275.00.

Keith Ryan Scholarship- Mike Babicz-The Banquet will be held on Nov. 17, 2011 at Midlane Country Club. Social at 6 pm and dinner at 7 pm. Peter King will be inducted into the Lake County Sports Hall of Fame. The NOA has reserved a table with tickets at $45.00.

Lifetime Members- Peter King-To be a member the official has to be retired for one year. Possible inductees in the future:

George Lewerenz, Doc Wolf, Jerry Eiserman, Chuck Popp, Ron Sapochak, Mike Roseman, Rudy Basovsky, Tom Toman.

This yearŐs inductee will be Frank Moscardini, Sr.

Old Business- Arbiter fee for next year will be $5.50/sport/year to be paid by the individual official.

NOA dues are $40.00 for 1 sport and $55.00 for 2 sports.

NOA/AOS dinner will be Wed. Oct. 5, 2011 at 7 pm., HackneyŐs, Lake Zurich.

We will look into having NOA wear made up. Don Swanson and Rocky Nelson investigate.

Delegates to the IHSA officials convention were Randy Steen and Rocky Nelson.

Randy Steen explained the IHSA Grant the NOA applied for. This was to purchase a projector for the computer.

New Business-A Finance committee consisting of Rocky Nelson, Randy Steen, and Dan Sawchuck was formed. The financial status of the NOA was discussed.

A Sportsmanship Award banner from the NOA was discussed. This will be presented to a team in the North Suburban and the Fox Valley Conferences in the sports of Football, Boys Basketball, and Girls Basketball. A motion was made by Darnell Jones and seconded by Mike Babicz.

The next Board meeting will be on Jan. 9, 2012, HackneyŐs in Lake Zurich at 7pm.

Motion to Adjourn-  Al Smigiel moved to adjourn at 9:13 pm and was seconded by Rocky Nelson . All approved.
